The Irish Special Olympics took on the role of providing their visitors with a new mechanism to deliver their messages; Bluetooth marketing.

BlueZone provided several units for the opening ceremony night along with units deployed around the various venues where the games were held.

QR Codes are quickly becoming a new mechanism for advertisers to get their message across to “those in the know” once recognising the QR Code graphic.

So what is a QR Code?

Well, put simply a QR Code is a barcode. The “QR” stands for “Quick Response”, with the message being able to be decoded at high speed.

Developed in Japan, QR codes are used in manufacturing, commercial applications and are often seen in magazines, on shop windows and even projected onto buildings.

How do users decode these QR Codes?

Typically the uesr takes a photograph of the QR Code using the camera on their phone. QR software (pre installed) can either take over the user’s camera function and “sandbox” the photo in the application so it can take the photo and incorporate it into the software.

The software then decodes the image to either a URL or some text with the desired message.

BLUEZONE AND TGIs AGREE FREE INTERNET SERVICE DEAL

TGI Fridays rolls out Free Internet to all Four Restaurants

BlueZone Media has agreed a deal with restaurant chain TGI Friday’s to supply free internet access in each of the chain’s four restaurants nationwide.  The service enables anyone with a bluetooth mobile phone to surf the web for free and has been selected by TGI Friday’s after a successful trial in their Dundrum restaurant.  TGI Friday’s St. Stephens Green, Blanchardstown and Blackrock in Dublin as well as Victoria Square in Belfast will offer the service.

As bluetooth mobile phones are now nearly ubiquitous, the service allows more customers to enjoy the benefits of the BlueZone service than a standard WiFi enabled hotspot.

To date statistics from the service show that one in four diners in TGI Friday’s Dundrum are using it, with a large number checking Facebook and searching Google.

“Being able to browse the internet on the go is now as important as being able to make calls on the go as so much of our lives are led online.  We’ve had people chatting with friends over IM, updating their Facebook and even checking their CAO offers in TGI Friday’s.  The great advantage of the BlueZone device is that it allows the vast majority of our customers to enjoy a quick browse while they eat, without the need for a laptop.” said Liz Gale of TGI FRIDAYS

BlueZone has supplied the service in locations as diverse as restaurants and car dealerships with companies eager to offer free services to expand footfall on retail premises.  BlueZone have been nominated for Fleet Magazine’s transport innovation award for their work in providing free internet on buses across the country.

“Facebook revealed that they are now expecting their one millionth Irish member within three months and that the average user spends 30 minutes per day on the site.  As it and other social networking sites continue to grow in popularity so to will public demand to access them wherever they are,” said Bluezone Managing Director Kevin O’Connor.

Liz Gale adds: “This might bode badly for table manners but people are increasingly co-ordinating their lives on Facebook and Bebo so browsing them in a restaurant is as normal as taking a call at dinner.”

The technology from BlueZone Media works by broadcasting broadband over a bluetooth network, created using a very small router.  Mobiles with bluetooth turned on are prompted to download a custom web browser.  The browser functions similarly to those on PCs and enables users to view a selection of sites in a condensed form free of charge.

Statistics from a new device, that allows anyone to freely browse the Internet through their phone, reveal that 1 in 4 diners in TGI Friday’s Dundrum are using the service to check Facebook and search Google instead of sharing the time with family and friends.

After an initial trial of the service in its Dundrum branch revealed high interest in simultaneously eating and Facebooking, TGI Fridays is now expanding the free internet service across all its restaurants nationwide- St. Stephens Green, Blanchardstown and Blackrock in Dublin as well as Victoria Square in Belfast.

South East Weddings introduces Bluetooth Advertising

Today BlueZone Media installed Bluetooth equipment for the wedding show in the Brandon House Hotel in New Ross organised by South East Weddings Magazine.

The aim of the Bluetooth campaign was to make the visitors and suppliers aware of the magazine and to help spread their magazine brand.

Wifi On Planes – Bluetooth Internet Possibilities

So it turns out that Airtran Airways have just installed wifi onboard their entire 136 fleet of aircraft making them the first airline to offer Wifi onboard all flights.

Utilising Wifi onboard flights allows business people to communicate back to the office and being more productive in the air means you’ll get the job done faster on the other end.

But what about those that don’t have a laptop or a Wifi enabled phone? like the majority of passengers onboard a flight, they won’t have a laptop with them. But they will have a mobile phone.

Switching on “Flight Mode” on mobile phones, and creating a bluetooth connection to the BlueZone Onboard system (which in turn is connected to the Wifi service) would mean that those without a laptop can still get online.

Looking to the future I can see more airlines taking up Wifi services and coupling that with BlueZone Onboard means that the airlines can offer a TOTAL internet service to all its passengers.
