Statistics from a new device, that allows anyone to freely browse the Internet through their phone, reveal that 1 in 4 diners in TGI Friday’s Dundrum are using the service to check Facebook and search Google instead of sharing the time with family and friends.
“We’ve had people chatting with friends over IM, reading emails and even checking their CAO offers,” said TGI Friday’s Marketing Manager Liz Gale. “Being able to browse the internet on the go is now as important as being able to make calls on the go as so much of our lives are led online. This might bode badly for table manners but people are increasingly co-ordinating their lives on Facebook and Bebo so browsing them in a restaurant is as normal as taking a call at dinner.”
After an initial trial of the service in its Dundrum branch revealed high interest in simultaneously eating and Facebooking, TGI Fridays is now expanding the free internet service across all its restaurants nationwide- St. Stephens Green, Blanchardstown and Blackrock in Dublin as well as Victoria Square in Belfast.
The service is provided by BlueZone Media and works by letting anyone with a Bluetooth equipped mobile phone to browse the internet in a shop, bus or plane. Kevin O’Connor, MD of BlueZone Media says:“The BlueZone device is facilitating the vast majority of TGI customers to enjoy a quick browse while they eat. Unlike other services you don’t need a laptop to go online- once your phone has bluetooth, which the vast majority have, then it’s free to use.”
BlueZone has supplied the service in locations as diverse as restaurants and car dealerships. They have been nominated for Fleet Magazine’s transport innovation award for their work in providing free internet on buses across the country.
“Facebook revealed that they are now expecting their one millionth Irish member within three months and that the average user spends 30 minutes per day on the site. As it and other social networking sites continue to grow in popularity so to will public demand to access them wherever they are.” added Bluezone Managing Director Kevin O’Connor.

Today BlueZone Media installed Bluetooth equipment for the wedding show in the Brandon House Hotel in New Ross organised by South East Weddings Magazine.
The aim of the Bluetooth campaign was to make the visitors and suppliers aware of the magazine and to help spread their magazine brand.

The message would also make suppliers at the event aware of the magazine’s advertising capabilities and contact details.

So it turns out that Airtran Airways have just installed wifi onboard their entire 136 fleet of aircraft making them the first airline to offer Wifi onboard all flights.
Utilising Wifi onboard flights allows business people to communicate back to the office and being more productive in the air means you’ll get the job done faster on the other end.
But what about those that don’t have a laptop or a Wifi enabled phone? like the majority of passengers onboard a flight, they won’t have a laptop with them. But they will have a mobile phone.
Switching on “Flight Mode” on mobile phones, and creating a bluetooth connection to the BlueZone Onboard system (which in turn is connected to the Wifi service) would mean that those without a laptop can still get online.
Looking to the future I can see more airlines taking up Wifi services and coupling that with BlueZone Onboard means that the airlines can offer a TOTAL internet service to all its passengers.
Kevin.

Utilising a Bluetooth marketing campaign, TGI FRiDAY’S today offered their customers FREE Bluetooth Internet on mobile phones. Customers are prompted to download a special Bluetooth internet browser and after installation get to browse various sites such as Facebook, Wikipedia, Instant Messenger (eBuddy), Flikr to name but a few (demo). Of course there’s Google Mobile so you can also search to your heart’s content.
At the top of the browser there is a main portal that upon entry customers can view a daily changing pages featuring cool mobile websites, polls, quizzes and the odd advert thrown in here and there.
To utilise the free Bluetooth Internet you must be within the proximity of the Bluetooth equipment. Great news for store owners as this can help:
1. Get customers to stay instore for longer
2. Increase the value of the customer’s experience
3. Build customer loyalty, ultimately leading to a return to the store to utilise service
BlueZone Media are proud to have TGI FRiDAY’S as a valued customer. If you’re in Dundrum and fancy something to eat, head into TGI FRiDAY’S, turn on your Bluetooth (plenty of signs instore) and enjoy FREE Bluetooth internet on your phone.

What exactly is Bluetooth Browsing?
BlueZone Media will use the new Bluevibe platform as it is the first and only Proximity Marketing system in the world that offers Free Web Access Via Bluetooth for a wide range of mobile phones. Of course it also comes with a complete package for traditional Content-Push Bluetooth Marketing Campaigns.
Give your clients access to their favorite Internet services on their Bluetooth-enabled phones:
Bluevibe is the next step in bluetooth marketing, and goes beyond traditional bluetooth advertising techniques.
Here’s why:
-
xHTML Support: The Bluevibe Browser is capable of handling and displaying xHTML websites, allowing your customers to surf the mobile web for free! (via bluetooth)
-
Universal: The Bluevibe Browser is a Java application for mobile phones, meaning it will run on all Java enabled mobile phones. For Bluetooth connectivity the only requirement is the Mobile Java Bluetooth profile, available on most phones with Bluetooth.
AND in addition to this, it already runs on a great number of Java-enabled devices.
The Bluevibe Browser works on most of the mobile phones in the market today!
-
Extensibility: The Bluevibe Browser by defaults offers a standard, but extensible, range of web services. We can, of course, develop new web services for you, but the best part is that so can you!
You can develop your own web services, and give your customers free access to such services on their mobile phones, using Bluevibe.
-
Did we mention FREE? Though the Bluevibe Browser also allows you to connect to your web services via GPRS/3G, to ensure off-premise accessibility for your customers, our strong point is that access to all web services is free for the customers, when they use Bluetooth to connect.
-
Refreshing look: Just take a look for yourself over at the Demos section for a few screenshots, or a live online demo to see why we think your customers will truly enjoy using the Bluevibe Browser.
-
Downloads: Rather than just sending multimedia files to your customers, give them the opportunity to select which content they wish to download on their mobile phones.
Buses and coaches fitted with WiFi and our BlueZone equipment can send out a special bluetooth browser to the passengers phones.
Opting in to receive the browser the passenger downloads it and installs the browser.
When started, the browser asks to make a BLUETOOTH connection to the BlueZone Onboard system, which establishes its internet connection through the WiFi solution onboard.
The passenger can now enjoy various mobile websites integrated into the Bluetooth Browesr.
Check out the video demonstration of the Bluetooth Browser
